Protecting Your Skin With Sunscreen
I don’t know about you, but I’m really looking forward forward to sunny days and warmer weather!
With warmer weather comes more time outside, and an even more important need for sunscreen. Did you know that sunscreen is important to wear even on the cloudiest of days?
Great makeup starts with great skin. It’s so important to take care of your skin. Not just for a great makeup look, but also to protect from skin cancer, sun damage, and premature aging.
There are so many different face sunscreens on the market these days and it can be hard to decide which sunscreen is the best.
A quick note: When it comes to skin care and hair care, I will always share what I use and love. However, you can also expect me to tell you why, helpful things to look for when looking for your own products, and even products that are comparable.
What I use: MONAT Sun Veil
Why I love it: Easy to apply, doesn’t clog pores, gentle on my sensitive skin, wears well under makeup, contains zinc oxide
What to look for when choosing sunscreen:
Zinc Oxide, and a high percentage, is one of the most important things to look for. Why? Zinc Oxide sits on the skin’s surface to provide a barrier to UVA and UVB light and isn’t absorbed into the skin. It is a more efficient blocker of the harmful rays. Because it isn’t absorbed into the skin, sunscreens with Zinc Oxide is better tolerated by sensitive skin. This is especially true of especially dry or eczema prone skin, which is more likely to absorb chemicals.
Because Zinc Oxide sits on top of the skin, there is a danger of having that oh-so-attractive white sunscreen nose. It can be harder to rub in and lose that white cast.
Sun Veil does a really great job of rubbing in well and losing that white cast very quickly. It’s definitely a delicate balance, but MONAT has done a great job of creating a formula that applies smoothly, works well, and wears well under makeup.
Other face sunscreens that also do this well?
Dime Beauty’s Wonderscreen, SPF 30
EltaMD UV Daily Sunscreen, SPF 40
Take a look at your sunscreen this week and see if it’s protecting you as much as you think it is! If you’re taking the time to apply a product every day, it should be working as hard as possible for you!
